Mercury alternatives for high-growth, complex businesses
If a fintech account closes, the alternatives are another fintech account, a community or specialist bank, or a placement into a bank with the right program. Mercury isn't a bank; its accounts are held at partner banks, and its terms let it close accounts at its discretion. We place the bank route. We don't guarantee the next account.
We place payment processing, business banking and crypto rails for high-growth, complex businesses with institutions that take the industry, then watch the chargeback ratios, reserves and reviews that get accounts closed, with more than one rail so one bank's no doesn't stop the business. Approval is never guaranteed.
How Break Free Finance is paid: [to be added].
| Route | What it is |
|---|---|
| Another fintech or BaaS account | Fast again. The partner bank can still exit the category. |
| Community banks with a program for complex industries | Narrower, and sometimes a better fit. |
| Industry-specialist banks | Banks that already bank your vertical. |
| Placement | We take the file to those banks. Subject to approval. |
What is Mercury, legally?
A fintech, not a bank. Mercury's terms say deposit accounts are provided by its partner banks, and that Mercury itself does not transmit money. Its terms let it suspend or close accounts at its discretion or under the partner banks' agreements, and prohibit online gambling transactions (Mercury Terms of Service, Oct 5, 2026).
Why do fintech accounts close?
Two layers can say no: the fintech and its partner bank. Either one's appetite can change. Federal guidance holds the bank responsible for activity it runs through third parties (2023 Interagency Guidance).
Which alternative fits?
- Another fintech account: fast again, same two layers.
- A community or specialist bank: slower, but you're the bank's direct customer.
- Placement: we take your file to banks that already serve your industry.
Where Break Free Finance fits
We're not a bank, processor, or money transmitter. We structure the deal, build the file, and place it with institutions in our network: decades of relationships with 40+ financial institutions and solution providers. The institution decides, and approval is never guaranteed. We can't release funds another provider is holding.
